Lessons learned in Upcycling: If you read my other blog, you know that I upcycled a $4 Goodwill dress into a cuter version of itself with more personality. And if you know me, you know that I'm not very patient, so making a dress is just a little bit of a stretch for me.
Just a little bit.
I was expecting an easy project, and boy was I wrong. I made it too long, and then too tight. I cut it open in the back, and then it was falling off. I cut off the skirt and then stitched it back on at a weird angle, so I had to rip the seams and reattach it. Basically the whole this was a lot of stopping and starting over, with which I don't do well. But ultimately it all paid off, because now I can say, "Hey, look at this cute dress I made!" (;
So here's what I learned during this project:
1) I don't like activities that require practice. If I'm not immediately good at something, I find it hard to actually enjoy doing it.
2) The whole sewing thing? Yah... It's hard.
3) Owning a dressmaker's dummy would make life just so much easier!
4) Sometimes I just can't do things on my own. I mean, I only have two hands, so I can't really hold and pin at the same time. My stepdad really came in handy there.
5) Projects don't have to be perfect. In fact, they probably won't be perfect. And that's just gonna have to be ok.
